However, the high temp, in the city was lower (around 50), due to stubborn clouds and dense fog, from all the melting snow (almost all gone now, after several days, with high temps in the 50s), while other suburban parts saw more sun.
Nevertheless, there are signs that the deep cold, that has been here, since December, is breaking. Although there will be more cold weather, and snow, for a while, I think the worst of the winter is behind. My minimum was -9.9 F. This was about as close as one can come, to still be able to say I had a zonal 6 winter. This was the coldest minimum, my area has seen, in about 7 or 8 years.
With the recent mild weather, I decided to take a peek, under the protection of some things. The Bulgarian Trachycarpus looks good in its box, and seems unaware of how cold it was outside. The minis seemed to have, once again provided sufficient warmth. The Sabal palmetto also seems to have survived, under its protection.
I checked on some hardy cacti and succulents, as well as some other potted hardy plants, in my unattached, unheated garage. They seem to have survived the z6A winter, too. In another month, they can come out, into the yard.
About once a week, I check on some potted plants I am storing in an unheated portion of my attic, to see if they are dry, or need water. Temps usually stay about 40 degrees, in there.
I was surprised to see an Edgeworthia 'Heaven Scent'plant, I got from Nurseries Caroliniana (a nursery close to you), last summer, as a gallon plant, IN FULL BLOOM !
When I got it, I had not decided where to plant it, so I potted it up, planning to set it out, this year. Flower buds set, last October. Although its cultivar is 'Heaven Scent', the blooms have no scent. I don't know if this is due to the plant being in total darkness, or not, but here it is:

While in my basement watering all my plants, down there, I took a wiff of a very sweet scent. At first, I thought one of my citrus was blooming, until I looked up, and saw this (this plant, 'Grimaldi', doesnt bloom outdoors, for some reason, but will bloom indoors, under much less light)...

With my outdoor gardening season beginning in just a few months, I have already started some starts from seed. The cool season veggies can be planted, or transplanted, in April. Warm season veggies can be planted in May...
