The dryness goes down several inches, too. Any water from the hose is not penetrating very deep, either. Surface gets dry in just a few days.
I have to keep watering, if the dryness continues, because plants can be expensive to replace. I wish more people considered climate change, to be real, and not a hoax. Droughts and flooding are happening annually now, often in the same areas. One extreme to the next, in a relative short period of time. One minute you are wondering when the rain will stop, and then wondering when it will rain more than a sprinkle, if that.
