My sister was mentioning to me, how she remembered how ants used to be on the flower buds of Peonies, when we were kids. I mentioned that the Peonies she remembered, were the herbaceous type, that dies back to the ground, every year. Here is the flower bud of an herbaceous Peony. Notice that it has ants on it. They love the sugary substance, this type of Peony produces. These flower buds are ROUND:

Here is a TREE PEONY flower bud. No suagary substance produced, so NO ANTS! These flower buds are not as round, either, as those on herbaceous Peonies...
