Yep, ants don't crawl on tree peonies, like they do, on this type. Some people think ants crawl on all peony flower buds.

Now that I discovered the Parasol Tree is hardy here, I hope it continues to grow slowly, because it would take up too much space, in my small yard.
I heard that the leaves are bigger, on younger trees, as well, and tend to be smaller, on big trees. If the tree is hardy here, I'm sure it is hardy there. If the new residents, of your old place, didn't cut it down, it is likely quite large, after all these years.
