Here are a few ABIU (pronounced: AH-BEE-YOU) seedlings that have germinated. For those who may not know, Abiu, Pouteria caimito, is a tropical fruit, that is known to begin fruiting in about 5 years, from seed, and can fruit, like many tropical fruit trees in containers. They can also be grown in near, or tropical areas, in the ground, if protected from frost. I received the seeds, in the fall, from Hawaii. Like many tropical fruit trees, the seeds have to be fresh, and planted within a week, or so, from being extracted from ripe fruits. I received these seeds 5 days after they were shipped, wrapped in moist paper towel. Still, it took nearly two months, before germination started...
