Either Shiloh ...

thought that she laid an egg last night or she really did but because there wouldn't be a shell it might have been mixed in with a poop. I thought something was wrong with her; she'd been very nesty, in the bottom of the cages and she ended up on the counter by the fridge. As it turns out, long story short, she was crouched in the classic forward-leaning position they get in when they're incubating eggs, that beak open-close repetitive motion and not stepping up for me. I thought something was radically wrong. I scooped her up, checked her belly, it was fine. She wasn't straining but I immediately called the vet. They've started extended hours so people don't have to go to the ER hospital but of course Shiloh's vet, the other bird vet nor Christina were there. In the middle of the conversation Shiloh started yelling at me and she is perfectly fine as we speak. I asked them to have her vet give me a call about maybe a preventative shot because I have Christmas Eve day and Christmas off and I'm taking Monday off and she'll end up going loopy again but Dr. Back said it's not a good idea to give Lupron like that. He's very conservative about it because it does mess with their hormones. So he said to just keep an eye on her, that laying eggs can affect the nerve in their legs. I had to remind him that she has only laid one egg in her 11 1/2 years and as a rule is not a hormonal bird EXCEPT when I'm home. Sigh. I think she loves to mess with my head. Cathy and Shiloh
