I love guacamole . How much of that fruit is wasted fruit that falls off those huge trees ?

I don't know Will if it even makes fruit. Most avocado fruit are picked off the tree. Ripe that fall from 50'? Can't be in prime.
Here's Corymbia in part bloom. They at best are covered. But I was there...

Would an avacado tree like that start seeing cold damage at 20F or so? Or is it more like 25F?

Real damage at 20f this size. I would think a short 25 just singes tips of branches. Even at 20f it might be cut back to thicker branches..but not killed.
I have been told by two fellow bay areans they know of Avocado trees "Much larger" than this one and one guy said it had "Hundreds of pound of fruit on it all year".

My wife has been starting bunch of plants from the pits, and they pot up quickly and are beautiful patio plants. Definitely too tender for planting out here. I’ve tried a hardy mexicola variety, but it rapidly caught come type of blight or wilt that killed it within weeks of planting in the ground

What's the story with your mangoes? Any fruit?

I finally bit the bullet and picked up a Pickering for container growing.

Its growing fine. About 14' tall now. Only the cool MAY really cut off pollinators. It only has a few fruit on it. Heck,it had more when it was 4' in warm spring years. True.
I have a Ataulfo also..looks beautiful. Maybe fruit next year? About 5' tall.
For you,they should do great in pots..warm summer nights in VA. Unlike some tropical fruit tree's? Mangoes are sweet. Even in bay area summers.

I tipped my small 'Pickering' mango, so it's now got three developing branches lower down -- better for container culture.

Just saw a post from a guy in Atlanta who is growing several types of mangoes (Maha Chanook and Mallika) on his apartment balcony and getting fruit! Just amazing.
