Thanks for the post Lucas. I shouldn't be surprised to see mature trachycarpus in the river valley (since I know it's a nice little warm area), but it's still interesting to see them just an hour and a half drive from me.

Do you ever see any Sabal minor used in landscapes around the Ft. Smith area? I was in OKC about 10 days ago driving in an older neighborhood where I spotted some random large Sabal minor in a landscape. While they aren't really common in the OKC area, it's kinda surprising how often you can find them there.

Sorry for not asking sooner, but how did you and your family make out in all of the flooding last month? I hope your homes were spared. I spent a couple days helping with clean up in Ft. Gibson and is was an absolute mess. I hope we don't see any more of those type of floods again in our lifetime.

Thanks Jim. Yeah I remembered first noticing the cycas about six or seven years ago. Haven't seen it lately so I drove by yesterday and took the shot of it. If you plant them as a larger specimen here in 7b they will do ok.

Yes sir there are numerous other Trachys in my area as well. There's probably about 4 S.Minor plantings that I know of in front of homes and a church here in town. Also the med fan palms in Barling that have been there for over 7 years. All three still doing good. Haven't seen any palms here die because of winter. Only those that didn't get planted correctly or that were neglected in some way or another.
Well thankfully no problems with flooding for me or my family. We all live on higher ground well away from the river. Yes eastern Oklahoma got a lot of flooding as well. Muldrow,Moffet, and Roland got it bad too.

How big are the S.Palmettos along your driveway getting. I bet they're huge now.

Good to hear from you too. Guntersville is only about an hour or so away. Maybe you can stop by for a visit. I wish everyone would use this board more often. Here is a pic of my driveway palms taken last month. The palms at the far end of the drive are much larger. I usually try to post pics of them on this board in late August.

They are looking great Tim. The trunks look at least two feet taller since I was last there. Your whole yard looks amazing. Yes will be in your area in Sept probably. May swing by and visit. Would love to see the "motherload" of s.minors again too.🌴😀

Thanks Scot. I think I have 15 trunking s. palmettos, ten along my drive. I have several volunteers that are getting some size to them also and a few other varieties of palms as well.
