Yes, I have read about the slightly hardier Med Palm variety, Cerifera & that it is more blue/grey in color and is native to higher elevations such as the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. But I've never seen one.

My experience in Charlotte is that our humidity and red clay are not what the Med Palm prefers. They like Hot and Dry with limestone soil.

I do think both Med Palms and Pindo Palms are beautiful, but both are clearly marginally-hardy in Charlotte. They are both 8b Palms.
