My "impossible" plant is a Sabal Palmetto that I planted, bare root, in 2007. You would not believe how slow this thing is. Like all-time snail plant. But, still alive after 13 years. Several of those years, the palm defoliated completely except for the spear. It still has no trunk, nor is it close to forming one, but it's definitely a palmetto, and not a S. minor. I give it minimalist protection. Mulch and windbreaks, basically. After all this time, though, I think it's still not going to make it through many more winters. But I've been saying that ever since I planted it.
