Just cut them off .
I used to be one of those people that cut off growth too early , and defibered too early , and cut a lot of greenery off before I should've .
I've mellowed over the years , but that Louisiana does look better with that dead pruned off ; I just hadn't gotten around to it yet
( Of course the Washy has dead fronds for the skirt effect . )
It looks better with the sun on it . Great blue color but you really see it in the sun :
