My Tifton Hardy Palmetto did prove it could survive the 8 day below 32F period but it was low to the ground and was possibly helped by the ground's relative warmth . My other Palmettos proved their fronds could handle lows of 4F and 5F because they outgrew some damage to their fronds fully in 2 consecutive seasons with those lowest lows . I don't know if any trunking Palmetto could handle that 8 day below 32F period though .
I'll be ready next time I see anything remotely like that in the future with my new Palmetto .
I'm thinking I'd like maybe a 200 gallon pot for a Washy which would control its size but allow it to get fairly tall .
