I grew a green med fan palm with protection in NYC for many years, but I lost it when I moved from my parents and couldn't cover it anymore. My blue med fan palm has been in the ground for probably 10 years and still looks like a seedling, but it survives every winter in NYC without protection. You might have a lot of luck with a blue one!
