Again, I have been trying to grow Med Palms in Charlotte for 20 years. I acquired one at a Columbia (SC) nursery, and another at a Wilmington (NC) nursery around 1999. They are “half-hardy” here. Their growth has been hampered by some cold winters; and too much shade in my yard (coupled with my desire to site them near my house, facing south, for winter protection). They will partly defoliate at 15 degrees F, even with protection.
Here, we see my trio-trunked Med. - one trunk is about 18” tall, the other 2 somewhat shorter. There are some suckers at the base. A taller trunk died about 4 years ago.
This is the best this Med has ever looked (thanks to a mild 2018-19 Winter). When they’ve had to endure single digit temps, the result is not pretty.
My other Med (not shown here) has 36” of trunk on a single trunk. I transplanted that one some 3 years ago and it is very healthy now.
