Gary could not have been more hospitable with his time, his grounds, and his vast knowledge. His Southern grace and good humor were ever-present. We spoke about recent winters, his customer base, soils, palm hardiness, his legendary connections to all things Palms over 40 years: the Sabal Birmingham, Woodlanders down in Aiken, SC, all the Raleigh landmarks such as the Raulston Arboretum, Pullen Park, JC Park, and Tony Avent; Tamar Myers; the guy down in Georgia who passed away in his 90's; the heat of Columbia; the "Windmill Belt" from Raleigh to Charlotte to Greenville, SC, and really everything.
My friends who live in New Bern will be back to visit Gary's Nursery. I urge everyone to go, if you can!
