Re: Off topic: Mexican feather grass/Texas needle grass
Right now the hill has some sparse weeds here and there, but it's mostly just bare dirt and exposed rock. The yard starts at the bottom of the hill, the forest starts again about five feet from the top of the hill. I just want to get if covered so I don't have to worry about ruts washing into it ever time we get a hard rain. I do like the idea of a sabal slope, but my other concern (other than slow growth) is just giving good cover for wildlife to get so close to my house.
This problem will be present with about anything I plant there besides turf grass though. Snakes are my biggest concern. I can see myself getting it covered in ornamental grasses or sabals, only to get my foot bit by a rattle snake near the edge of the plantings while I mow my lawn at the bottom of the hill. Beyond well mowed lawn though, I think I will be creating critter habitat, no matter what I plant.
Thanks for you advice though, Tommy. I am going to be giving it some thought and I will share what I eventually choose to do with the space.
