Alfonso could get married and still have children. What would happen to the legal status of Maria's child if she marries and her spouse becomes the other parent? Previous Message
The Infanta was created Duchess of Soria in 1981, not when she married. Her brother created the title precisely because the Hernani titles was disputed by other possible heirs.
If Maria’s son will inherit the title is a mistery, at least for me. The present law does not say anything about legitimate and illegitimate children. But the Supreme Court has ruled that titles can only be inherited by legitimate descendants if the letter of creation has that clause. And the Hernani creation does have it.

Manfredo de Borbon, duke of Hernani and Ansola died in 1979.
He left the Hernani title to his distant cousin Infanta Margarita, but not the Ansola title.
AFAIK, Infanta Margarita never used the Hernani title, using only the title she received when she got married, the ducal title of Soria.
Infanta Margarita had two children, Alfonso and Maria de Zurita y de Borbon.
When the Infanta will pass away, the Soria title will revert to the crown/become extinct and Alfonso will inherit only the Hernani title.
Alfonso is single and has no children of his own, so the title will pass to his sister Maria.
Maria is single and has a son, Carlos, born of IVF.
Naturally, when the basis of the succession of titles was created, nobody spoke of IVF.
My question is: Can Carlos ever succeed his mother in the Hernani title ?
If not, and given that succession titles are gender-free these days, I guess the title will pass to the line of Infanta Pilar, to her first born child, Simonetta Gomez-Acebo and then to her eldest son Luis, correct ?
