Just curious because we’ve seen in the Netherlands the crypt in Delft extended for future burials, for example, but I’ve not heard anything about Spain.

Where are most of the historic royals of Spain buried, anyway? I had assumed Madrid -- but the following article implies otherwise.
That Giuseppe Verdi's DON CARLOS (one of my favorite operas), based on Friedrich Schiller's play, is full of factual errors is well-known: it makes for good drama, but not history (like Shakespeare's so-called "history" plays).
