Felipe remained good friend with Pedro BTS and his elder sister Cristina and her husband Pedro Lopez-Quesada.
Given the distance between Felipe and his own sisters, don't know if Elena remains close to the BTS siblings bearing in mind they are considered too close to Felipe, namely the two elder who live in Spain.
Does anybody know if Q.Sofia is godmother of any of the BTS siblings or Elena or other member of the SRF is godparent to any of Pedro's many children ?
Do we know anything about the contact of Queen Sofia and/or Infanta Elena with the Calabria branch?
I know they attended the funeral of the late duke and Infante. But how is their relationship with the younger generation?
Besides the wedding was in Palermo so special travel restrictions may have made attending more difficult for either of them. I don't think Felipe was expected to attend and Letizia does not seem to attend Gotha events on her own unlike her mother-in-law.
For his absenbce at the upcomng Wedding in Athens there is a reason as the bridal Couple unfortunately choose the same Weekend as the Prince of Asturias Prince is awarded.
Don't think it became known why no single member oif the spüanish rF attended the recent Noto WEdding.
Felipe & L. do not attend their close relatives weddings, the weddings of people they grew up with, like the son of the duke of Calabria or this week-end, the wedding of Philippos of Greece.
Last week, he missed the wedding of his (not very respectable) cousin Francisco of the Seville branch, though the current duke was close to JC and attended F & L wedding.
AFAIK the RF did not attend the funeral of Francisco's sister either.
Why would he attend the wedding of a cousin he never heard of before ?
The best known illegitimate Borbon, cousin Leandro, took ages to be recognized as "member" of the family and even so, he had scarce contact with the RF. He met his half-brother the CoB a couple of times but his offsping has no contact with the RF.
You do realise that the King normally meets people because of the special role in society (ether due to their role or because they are volunteers or experts in their field) i don't see how someone being a descendant (on the so called wrong side of the blanket) of Alfonso XIII makes them qualify as special.
I don't think Felipe and Letizia would try to evade the groom but they have more pressing matters and more deserving people to meet imo.
No need to have a close bond. The King meets (thousands?) of people annually. An invitation to a greet and meet situation could be easily arranged. They all seem like nice people
I think the growing up together bit is the crucial part in all of this.
Felipe and the groom did not grow up together so it's not strange they have no close bond.
I'm actually quite close to the other descendants of both sets of great-grandparents on my other's side of the family (no one is close to each other on my father's). Many of us grew up together, were schoolmates, had family get togethers, etc. Even now that my generation is the senior one, we still stay in touch via Facebook and the like.
Their shared ancestor is Felipe's great grandfather Alfonso XIII. I don't know about you but i have absolutely no contact with people i only share a great grandparent with let alone if that line goes outside of the normal family structure as this guy is descending from one of Alfonso XIII' extra-marital affairs.
So it's not like Juan, count of Barcelona and his half-brother grew up together.
He seems like a nice guy, and I hope he gets the chance to meet King Felipe and his family.
No chance of the King attending his wedding, but I'm sure a meeting can be easily arranged
