She spent part of her childhood in Alexandria and South Africa going to schools there. She was later sent to a German school and later in the UK and studied in Cambridge.
Greek and Spanish are the languages of the kingdoms she was either born in or married into.
German was the native language of 3 of her 4 grandparents and she spent time in a German school.
English was the language of her first schools and her final education so she must have been comfortable in that language to choose a school in the UK.
French was until recent the language of the elites so she would have been taught that from an early age as well.
Thank you for the link. Such a polyglot!
Here is Queen Sofia speaking Spanish, English, German, Greek, and French.
Her Spanish pronunciation sounds perfect, but there is a slight “non-native” accent.
When I listen to Queen Sophia speak, I don’t detect an accent. However, given that Greek was most likely her first language, does one still sense a slight accent when she speaks Spanish? Thanks to any member who could comment. 🇪🇸 🇬🇷
