Barely is not the proper word. It was not his first language and he spoke it with French accent. That was one of the reasons to send him to Spain. His father thought Spain would never accept an heir with foreign accent.
But his sisters never lived in Spain until they were adults and no foreign accent. On the contrary, they speak/spoke quite a popular Spanish, like their brother.
Thank you all for your posts and links. I hadn’t read much about Ms. Larsen until now. On another note, the report mentions that Juan Carlos barely spoke Spanish when he finally moved to Spain. Wondering if this is accurate and what his first language would have been. French perhaps? Thank you to any member who may be able to elaborate.
Here is a long BBC article about the interview (but I now see that Raymond already posted it below): https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-53749630
Yes, an interesting documentary with prestigious contributions. But she was just giving her speech. She has to face investigations in Spain and Switzerland, which could lead her to jail. And the journalists did not ask her anything about it. It was not a spontaneous interview. And when she said the King has “hundreds” of accounts in different jurisdictions, why was she not ask to elaborate it deeper?
This is a serious documentary series on a a serious radio channel and I found it interesting. Sir Paul Preston , London School of Economics, Príncipe de Asturias Professor of Contemporary Spanish Studies
contributed and he gave a fair assessment of King Juan Carlos. His view seemed to be that Juan Carlos had been sacrificed to the Monarchist cause as a child, had worked hard, at some personal risk to maintain democracy and the women and cash perks were an upside to what had been a difficult early life.
Yes, she has spoken about it before. And with more details. She was taped (without her knowledge??) while talking to a Spanish corrupt Police agents. Hours and hours of conversations. Both of them are being investigated by the Spanish Courts. Corinna will have to testify next month.
Hello...today I listened to an interesting interview on BBC Radio 4 ( in English)...on the series "Crossing Continents", this episode was "Spain: the elephant in the palace". Ms Larsen was interviewed by the BBC.I had not heard her speak on the matter before ( yes, it's all about you know what!!).
