There is an analogy between the Habsburgs and the Romanovs: both house names derive from females who were the last sovereigns of their respective dynasties (Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresia and Empress Elizabeth of Russia, notwithstanding the fact that she imprisoned a relative).

Calling the Romanov-Oldenburgs just plain Romanovs or the Habsburg-Lorraines just plains Habsburgs is more like calling the Orléans-Braganza just plain Braganzas."
