Having prominent public figures who have a different sexuality than the norm is important for children growing up with insecurities about their own sexuality or those who realise they are not part of the majority. Especially as most grow up with heterosexual families and seeing that two women or two men can be a good couple also helps them and their families to come to terms with it.
In Friso's case media had been speculating for years that he might be gay so he decided to come out as straight. Juliana and Bernhard had 11 grandsons, 9 of them with a princely title so the odds were that one of them might very well be gay. As it turned out non of them are.
Despite all it has been said and your points that you think they matter, still I wonder why was the late Prince Friso of the Netherlands obliged to make a statement about his sexuality, if it wasn't for the morbid interest of some people about his sexual habits? What difference does it make to their or your lives if he liked girls or boys?!?!?!
Do heterosexual people need to make statements such as: "Mind you, I like women, girls!!!!!".
Nobody should care about other people's sex preferences, that's all!
If one wants to listen to this sort of rumours, the list is very long of supposed gay princes or sovereigns, but do I care, NO!!!!!!! Very often those rumours are generated by republican propaganda......I don't even listen to them!
