I understand that the then-Hereditary Prince Albert of Monaco was declared regent for his father on March 31, 2005. He officially succeeded as the sovereign Prince Albert II less than a week later, upon the death of Prince Rainier III.

Was this the shortest regency ever, in European royal history?
