Yes, so much rubbish gets put up on these "open" websites, whether by accident or design.
Everything must be weighed against the reliability of cited sources and often verifying the source yourself. Bad Wikipedia info often cites published works in which, if one actually checks, there is nothing that substantiates what is said in the Wikipedia article.

As of now I would regard the Wikitree as credible as most entries at websites like Geni.com, Myheritage.com. The worst sources for spreading "genealogy virus" ever.
