The last empresses of European decent were Zita and Elizabeth. Zita reigned as Empress consort in Austria during the end of WWWI. then she and Empress Augusta Victoria of the German empire were dethroned. Elena of Italy was briefly Empress of Ethiopia in the 1930s into early days of WW II. Her reign as Empress ended then and her reign as Queen consort ended in Italy after the war ended, Elizabth, queen consort of King George VI was also Empress of India from 1936 until 1947. Zita and Elizabeth lived the longest with Zita dying in the late 80s and Elizabeth after 2000.
