Case in point: King Michael of Romania metaphorically had a gun pointed at his head, to abdicate the throne in 1948. The abdication of Czar Nicholas II of Russia (who also renounced the throne for his son) might come close.
What are other examples? Such cases would basically be at the polar opposite end of the spectrum from the abdications we have witnessed in Denmark, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands -- where sovereigns who were aging or had served long enough chose to gracefully retire, allowing their heirs to gain the thrones early.
