Both grandmothers of King Manuel II of Portugal (Princess Marie Isabelle of Orléans and Princess Maria Pia of Savoy) were still living, when in 1908 he unexpectedly succeeded to the throne upon the dual regicides of his father and older brother.
Maria Pia of Savoy was Queen, not Princess
I did my best to refer to all the queens consort by their maiden titles, in order to stress the fact that they were not sovereigns in their own rights. The exception was Princess May of Teck, for reasons that she was born a morganaut, and I didn't want to *rub in* the fact that she was not born fully royal (or *equal*).
