That reminds me: I forgot the earlier Mary of England -- who married as his second wife her kinsman, King Philip II of Spain. She died of smallpox in 1558, and was survived many years by her husband, who went on to marry two more times.
Think you've confused the two Marys. Mary I was survived by her husband Philip of Spain. It's thought she died of uterine cancer (hence the false pregnancies). Mary II was outlived by her husband and co-monarch William III. She is the one thought to have died from amallpox.
