What about the Habsburgs? I know that as with the Romanovs, there were members of the dynasty far down in the succession who married Protestants who never converted. It has been asserted that Archduchess Sophie, mother of Emperor Franz Joseph, would have been willing to accept a Protestant for a daughter-in-law -- so long as she was royal and willing to convert to Catholicism. But was this a legal requirement for an Austrian empress consort? Or simply an expectation?
