Over the years there have been attempts at establishing a reigning dynasty in several countries which ended in failure for some reason. William of Orange was invited to reign in England & Scotland, but the House of Orange failed to become that nations dynasty due to a lack of children born to William and his wife Mary. In Greece, an invitation to Otto of Wittelsbach made him king, but after several years he was dethroned. William was invited to assume the throne of Albania, but ended his reign when WWI began. Later, Zog proclaimed himself king of Albania, but war again interrupted and ended his reign. Nicholas of Montenegro saw his throne ceded to the monarch of Serbia, thus ending his reign and the independence of his country,
Nicholas of Montenegro was the only king of that country but his dynasty, Petrovic Njegos, has ruled Montenegro since 1697 as princes
