On December 29th Dave F posted a picture of some really nice looking lanterns in what was described as "Federal Yellow." I have checked Federal paint standards and other than in the generic sense, there is no Federal Yellow. There is a Federal paint color that I think may match called "Orange Yellow." It is found on "Federal Standard 595 Paint Spec," and is description "FS 13538," "RGB Hex Code F5AB30." This standard was adopted in 1952. I believe this color was originally specified for Government heavy equipment and later for the lines in the road, although that was a very different paint. I believe also that IH also used this color on some tractors, as did Piper on some aircraft. I think that the color is older than the standard and probably older than the Night Watch lanterns that were commonly painted yellow.
Does anyone know if I'm heading in the right direction? I would really like to repaint some lanterns that I Have correctly.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help on this issue.
Best wishes,
Les
