"School Bus Yellow" is a bit lighter than what is accepted as federal yellow, and is another nest of snakes all by its self. However, Federal Standard No. ("FS") 595a, (tells which color chart the FS # comes from,) Color 13432 School Bus, is the Federal Standard for ALL School Buses.
According to chart 595, paints are identified by FS number only and ALL names are generic.
It is nice to have the federal standards, but paint manufacturers don't seem to give a hoot what they call "FS" unless it really has to go for a Federal Contract, then they use FSxxxxx.
Other than trying colors, which I am doing at present, there seems to be no way to tell what Dietz used unless someone finds original paperwork, and then I'm not to sure it will help anyway, because of its age.
How's this for a bit more mud in the waters?
If you would like, send me your email and I'll send you the FedPaintSpec595 PDF.
best wishes,
Les
