Glass Bridge"
It is pleasing to see the all public responses, on the Message Board and in the Press, to the proposal for the Glass Bridge. The structural practicalities of using 'glass' have been questioned but we must bear in mind that one hundred years have passed since Gilbert Scotts proposal for a stone Bridge over the exact same spot. I have now unearthed a historic drawing, circa 1945, which shows the Bridge as as part of the post-war reconstruction and completion of the Cathedral Precinct. I have also discovered that The Pilkinton Family were major sponsors of the Cathedral. Like the great Gothic Cathedral builders of the past now we must have the courage to innovate; we have the young architects and world class engineers as is revealed in all the competition entries. Like the young Gilbert Scott and the Catherdal Builders we must seize the moment. May the Spirit be with you, lets get behind the Glass Bridge ! Dr Rob MacDonald. Liverpool.
