The Mersey is a river until if reaches Howley Weir near Warrington where it becomes the upper estuary, then at Runcorn it changes to the inner estuary, national geographic state that a river is fresh water, once it crosses Holley weir it becomes tidal and therefore brackish water. So in this instance I have to come down on the side of Mr. Dosser Jacket and proclaim that the nearest ground to the river Mersey will remain Stockport County.
