The problem they had was the reservoir in the corner and the sightlines from the newish Cheadle End would have been awful (a long way from the touchline and restricted views to the 'reservoir' corner). It didn't get anywhere because of the cost.
With the Cheadle End now 20 odd years old, could probably justify a bit more redevelopment.
