Posted by Jeffrey Alan Messer Anyone who gets a speeding ticket going up here really deserves it. Howard Street Hill is one of the longest and steepest hills in town. Maple Street, Wheaton, Grant Street, and Austin Street are even steeper, but not as long. Who needs a gym membership? Just walk up these hills a few times. About one minute before, I saw two drivers on southbound Oakland Drive blow a red light at Howard Street, right in front of a public safety station.

The Howard Street Hill speed trap at the Kalamazoo Public Schools Administration Building appeared to be in operation today at 2:52 p.m. I am not absolutely positive the speed trap was in operation at this time, as I did not see the radar. What I did see was an officer in a patrol car parked in the normal position appearing to be looking down while there was a pickup truck parked next to it. I imagine the officer was writing a speeding ticket for the truck. 109
