I read a comment by Prince Edward a couple months ago saying that what made sense the might not make sense now. This seems to me to be a revised plan hammered out after much discussion since the late Queen's death.
I think that makes a lot of sense!
When the Forfar title was given to Edward I felt there was more to it at the time. So I'm now thinking the late Queen and Duke and the then PoW Charles agreed, or Charles made clear, that Edinburgh would be created next for lifetime only. The late Queen then granted Forfar to ensure the Wessex family would always have a title to use in Scotland.
