I am sure the cabling is not that bad or the Fire Department needs to explain itself why it did not uphold the building codes for decades. It would also pose a serious threat to anyone now working and living in the building.
I am confident that whoever is in charge of the renovations would be able to find a company somewhere in the UK - although it might be difficult now most of the skilled EU workers have left - who can fairly quickly arrange up to date cabling and plumbing in a few private apartments. There are numerous separate electrical and plumbing systems working in a large building like that but I am getting to technical here.
The Prince and Princess of Wales still use Kensington Palace as their London base although their permanent home is now in Aldelaide Cottage at Windsor. Just as the King and Queen Consort still use Clarence House when in London.
Buckingham Palace's electrical cabling, plumbing and heating have not been updated since the 1950s. The building's infrastructure is in urgent need of a complete overhaul to prevent long-term damage to the building and its contents. A phased programme of works is currently being under taken which started in 2017 and is into it's 6th year of the ten year programme. The Palace is currently not suitable to live in.
