Damien, I am currently watching a video of Queen Elizabeth's coronation. I am 50 minutes in and I have only seen the CoE clergy, peers and peeresses and the aristocracy in various roles. Given we are living in a different world, in both the UK and the "other realms", it will be interesting to see what changes are made to make the monarchy still seem relevant. I agree with you that the Queen Consort will be crowned but will the detachable Koh-i-Noor diamond still be part of the Queen Consort's crown?
Change is a constant and a given - that doesn't mean every time a coronation comes along that it has to conform to popular misconceptions. The definition of what is "relevant' is also valuing only what is passing, and the antithesis of tradition. The problem with "relevant' is also that what is relevant today probably won't be relevant at all 10 years down the line, so why worry about it? A coronation or any ceremony is a timeless tradition, it doesn't need to be concerned with what the street thinks or feels. It needs to be true and constant to its own identity and its own history.
