Re: The Prince and Princess of Wales
I totally agree with that and I'd also add that the use of the word "Kate" isn't just a case of ignorance and over-familiarity but often in these social media posts you can read are a deliberate attempt to deride, deminish and defame. To some, her status and the continuity she now represents is a threat because of the actual underlying hatred of the monarchical system. Thus the continual references to "Waitie Katie", and various ad homs. All of which again says much more about the variety of haters - be it anti-royalist, family hater, in-law hater, etc. - for whom THE Princess of Wales represeents an iconic figure to attack in name. Previous Message One problem with that interpretation is that she doesn't go by Kate, she prefers Catherine. Which I can understand very well. And a lot of women are very happy to use their married name. It's not a loss of identity, it's a sign of unity and joy for many. Previous Message Previous Message I too hope that the "Kate Middleton" business will be over with, and that we will be reading about the Princess of Wales from now on. It is good to remember that references to her in the press as "Kate Middleton" also enhanced her likability and relatability as a regular young woman. I never saw the Kate M thing as intentionally demeaning her or suggesting she was not worthy of being a royal. Calling her Kate M also reflects the growing trend whereby women maintain their own identity after marriage.
