The regular crew of John, Harley, Jack and I set out today in hopes of having better diving than last week. The seas were 3 to 4 ft of gentle rollers spaced about 8 seconds apart. The first site was one of the bigger wrecks that get pounded on a regular basis. The San Saba had about 20 ft of vis and a bottom temp of 54 f. We did not see a lot of sea life but several nice fluke came up as well as a few lobster ( up to 4.5lbs= just below the legal limit by about 1/16 inch)It was a nice dive with good conditions so we decided to stay in the area. Wreck number 2 was one of the bigger wooden wrecks in the area. Bottom conditions were about the same. Several nice lobster came up as well as some ling and fluke. Site number 3 only one diver went down and as its very small they were up in about 5 minutes with a nice bug. Last stop we hit a low wood wreck inshore and found the swell had stirred up the bottom on this one but a few nice fish still came up. Still not great hunting but we came back with an overflowing cooler and at least one diver got a lobster limit with two in the 5 lb range. Everyone went home with lots of fresh fish and lobsters. Hopefully things will get better from here and the hunting seems to be picking up.
Just goes to show even the large "pounded" wrecks still produce plus there is more to see and gives EVERYONE a FAIR shot. The small snags are not what they used to be and are equally pounded by other private boats. Less to see and do and not a fair shot to divers not the first one in. Today the snags need to be buoy dove by only 1 or 2 divers, hit it fast and leave, then the next is diver up on another snag. Gives everyone a fair shot. Buoy diving with the diver ready to hit the water the same time as the buoy saves time hooking in, setting up, blah, blah.....
