Venture III 10-4-05 - Another great day. Archived Message

Posted by izzy on 10/5/2005, 9:23 pm

The day started out overcast with bumpy seas. Two of us were seasick the whole day. At least I got the dives in. The skies turned blue and the temp was about 70. There were 4 dives (3 wrecks and a rock pile). The viz was 3 feet and 6 feet on the first two dives if you are generous. I did those and the 4th dive of the day with 16-18 foot viz. There were 10 divers and there were lobster, tautog, seabass and a white-finned sharksucker brought up. The later was buzzing us as we did our hang and he became part of the take thanks to a spear gun.
It was another challenging day for me on the seas in part because of the seasickness which sapped my energy. My drysuit is now a wet suit despite new seals, the reel Wes gave me was a challenge on the first dive and came up looking like spaghetti (who knew there was a brake on it?) so I went back to my old reel which worked well. I found some barrels off the last dive and as I came from the right, someone else came from the left. He got the barrel with the large lobster and I got the one with nothing. Hmmm? I also developed a leak in the pony reg. One should never say how well their equipment is holding up as since that day in August I’ve lost one catch bag, had my drysuit in for repair twice, had problems with two reels, a pony reg leak, and had my $375 eye glasses fall overboard (that is the cost of the lenses –ouch). With all my equipment in for repairs I’ve decided to call it a season but the Venture III will continue with Open Boat diving and Marty’s group will be going out again in two weeks.
It has been a real pleasure diving with Marty’s group this summer and on the Venture III. Thank you Marty for allowing me to dive with you and your friends. Ruth and Capt. Paul are great hosts when we are on board and the day, despite the pitfalls, will remain in my mind as another great day on the ocean.
(I've tried to attach a couple of pictures but I am definitely handicapped when it comes to this technology thing that Mo is so good at).
