I may be in a minority here but I believe the initial problem was caused, unintentionally, by Queen Sofia. First it was contrary to precedent and protocol for official photos to be taken in the Cathedral , before the RF had exited; secondly there was a strict protocol. always followed in the past, of how the RF leaves the Cathedral. First the King and Queen. then the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sodia, then King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia (who I believe have not attended together with the King and Queen since the abdicat9on) Then, when they are outside, the official photos are taken - I am sure Queen Sofia has plenty of opportunity to have photos with her granddaughters and it would ha e bene better if this had bene done on another occasion . The royal family is not just any family, it has certain rules of precedence which now apply since the abdication of King Juan Carlos. It is very unfortunate that this has been presented as if Queen Letizia had assaulted her mother-in-law, which is not what happened - she was trying to make sure that the children followed her and the King, the two girls beside each other, as was expected. Of course, if she had done nothing, the breach of protocol would probably not have occasioned much comment other than among a few pedants (like me). Now this is being presented as a major breach between the two Queens, which I think is vastly overstated.
