First Hunt 2010
Posted by Tim Harrison on 22/2/2010, 3:36 pm
I was out walking on Friday on the SW Coastal Path between Mousehole and Lands End, and noted 32 species in bloom (n.b. First Hunt rules were followed!!). Highlights were Poa infirma, Vinca difformis, often abundant Viola odorata and spectacularly early Armeria maritima and Anthriscus sylvestris near Tater Du lighthouse. Very few daffodil cultivars were in flower in the abandoned quillets, apart from the usual early Narcissus species N. x medioluteus and N. tazetta. However, four years ago I was on the same stretch of coast at approximately the same time of year and I noted 51 species in bloom. Does anyone else have any 2010 early "First Hunt" counts yet from VC1 or VC2? Do they show a similar trend?
