The Luck-E-Lite is one of those lanterns that wasn't intended to be taken apart once assembled. The only way I know of to get to the spring would damage the retaining ring that holds the globe retainer in place. You would have to pry the edge of that ring down far enough to allow the globe retainer to slip past the ring and remove it. once you've finished doing what you need to do you'd have to slip it back in again and straighten out the retaining ring.
