I see a photo of the globe in question has not been posted yet. I was wondering if you have resolved your question, I have looked at all my Handlan #57 fresnel globes and they are marked either Handlan No.57 or just Handlan. I think that the earlier ones are marked with the full name Handlan No.57 and later just simply marked Handlan. I have a couple of hypotheses on this change in the name. One is that less lettering on the mold slug plate costs less to produce, and second that without the No.57 mark on them they could sell and advertise their globes as replacements for other lanterns like the Dietz and Embury #40 Traffic-Gard lanterns even after the #57 lantern was discontinued since they were all of interchangeable size. That's my take on it, I hope this helps answer your question. If the globe is not the #40 size then a photo would help to identify what lantern it belongs in.
Best regards,
Willis
