These wooden bails were not a factory option all the time.Many were bought by railroads and then sent tom a separate company that fit them with these bails.I have one like this from the St.Louis Southwestern,AKA Cotton Belt.The Dietz XLCR short bell bottom was not made by Dietz with a wood handle. A private company, like Moore, bought them and installed the handles and sold them under their name.Also, they were not all used around third rail. finally, some of them were removable.I have one of those also.
