More good information! Thanks to all for "educating" me. I was a kid in the 60's as well. Never saw a lantern, only those "cannon balls" with fire coming out of the top. Years later, I learned that they were called flambeaus (sp,?), which is perhaps a local name for them. I now know them as sludge pots. BTW, I wish my No. 100 had a city or company name on it to add to it's "history."
