Hi, I should have mentioned that the predecessor to the #40 Traffic Gard, the Dietz "Night Watch" lantern used a flat 3/8" wick which is more readily available than the 1/4" round felt wick used in the Traffic Gard, had globes available in the same colors, and also used a Fresnel lens which I think might serve just as well as an ambient lighting source for your purpose,a little more pricey these days and not as streamlined in design, the Night Watch was a sturdy lantern also. The 1/4" felt center-stiched wicks made for Adlake lanterns/lamps which I consider the best are still available on eBay and from W.T.Kirkman will fit the Traffic Gard burner also. Either lantern seems to fit your needs.
